Sergeant John Mahon is employed by the Bexar County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) and has served his community for 32 years. He began his career at the BCSO in 1992 and was assigned to detention. After serving about seven years in detention, in 1999, he began his career in law enforcment and was assigned to the BCSO Gang Unit (OCI Division). In 2003, he was reassigned to patrol on the western portion of Bexar County; during this time, he also had assignmEnts in the traffic unit and nuisance abatement.
Thereafter, he promoted to the rank of investigator (2004) and was subsequently assigned to the following units in the Criminal Investigation Division (CID): Night CID (2004-2005), Violent Crimes (2006-2007), and Homicide (2007-2015). During 2015, he promoted to the rank of sergeant and was reassigned to patrol, internal affairs, and in 2016 return to supervision within CID. He has supervised Night CID, Violent Crimes, ChildSafe, Missing Persons, Traffic Homicide, and Homicide (2019-2024).
Andreen McDonald, A Case Study
This is a panel discussion between the law enforcement investigators from the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office and attorneys with the Bexar District Attorney’s Office who were assigned to the homicide investigation of Andreen McDonald. The presentation will cover the case from the initial CID response through the trial, addressing important topics such as a multi-agency response to a homicide investigation as well as the successes and pitfalls of the trial.
