Lucas Beyer has been a certified law enforcement officer with the State of Georgia for 10 years. He began his career with the Georgia Department of Community Supervision as a Probation and Parole Officer in 2015 and transitioned to his current position as a Special Agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) in 2020.
Beyer spent 5 years as a GBI field agent in the Atlanta Regional Field Office and the Athens Regional Field Office where he has been involved in a wide variety of criminal investigations including homicides, use of force, public corruption, child exploitation, crimes against the elderly, domestic terrorism, and a mass casualty school shooting event. Currently, Beyer is assigned to the GBI's Child Exploitation and Computer Crimes Unit.
He is a certified Instructor and Field Training Officer. Beyer is a recipient of the 2024 GBI Deputy Director's Award for his role in the investigation of the murder of L Riley.

Murder of Laken Riley
The presentation is a case study regarding the multi-agency investigation into the murder of Laken Riley. It will review the coordinated efforts between the GBI, UGPD, HSI, FBI and ACCPD and how each agency played a vital role in the overall investigation and the successful prosecution of the perpetrator. The presentation will be a chronological review of the investigation beginning with the 911 call, discovery of the body, the forensic processing of the scene, identification of the person of interest, search warrants, and the ultimate arrest of Jose Ibarra. The presentation will also discuss strategies used in the investigation, grand jury preparation and courtroom testimony.
