King has built a remarkable career in both professional basketball and law enforcement.
Starting his law enforcement journey in 2007 with the Dekalb County Police Department, he gained experience in patrol and the Narcotics Unit. Over time, he expanded his expertise at other departments, including the Brookhaven Police Department, Lithonia Police Department, and the City of South Fulton Police Department.
While at Lithonia, he served as a Sergeant, leading both the Criminal Investigation and Patrol Divisions.
In October 2018, King joined the South Fulton Police Department, where he was a lead Homicide Detective. His extensive training and specialized skills made him a valuable asset, especially in the Criminal Investigations Division. King took on significant responsibilities as a Lead Homicide Detective, where he led investigations into major violent crimes. His work also extended to human sex trafficking, where he collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security.
King’s impact is most notable in his success rate and the lives he has helped to save. As Lead Homicide Detective, he was instrumental in solving numerous homicide cases, while his Homicide Division maintained an impressive 94% solve rate from 2018 to 2022.
King maintained an impressive 100% perfect record of solving all homicides assigned to him. His involvement in Human Trafficking led to the rescue of 28 missing females, with 10 cases being Human Trafficking cases. His strong partnership with Homeland Security resulted in the transfer of five trafficking cases for federal prosecution.
Through his dedicated service, Joseph King has made an indelible mark on the communities he has served, consistently working toward justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals.

MISSED HOMICIDES
Six years old. Abuse by his stepfather. Charges are brought, but sadly, the little boy does not survive. Improper investigation and reassignment of the case leads to key pieces of evidence that had been overlooked, leading to an arrest. Complications the initial investigation caused for the medical examiner and CPS and righting the ship to get a murderer behind bars and justice for a little boy full of life.
