Lieutenant Jerry D. Holeman began his career in public service in 1989 by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. He was deployed during the Gulf War serving in Operation Desert Storm. He was an artilleryman for eight years before being honorably discharged in 1997.
Lt. Holeman began his law enforcement career in 2001, graduating from the 61st Indiana State Police Recruit Academy. Upon graduation he was assigned to patrol White and Carroll counties at the Lafayette District, until 2006 he was transferred to the Methamphetamine Suppression Section as a certified clandestine laboratory investigator.
In 2009, he was promoted to detective assigned to the Lafayette District’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID). He investigated multiple high-profile investigations, including officer-involved shootings, homicides, bank robberies, and numerous crimes against children.
In 2014, he served as the Investigative Squad Leader(SGT) in Lafayette District’s CID where he provided support and supervision to district detectives. In 2016, he was promoted and served as the Lafayette District’s Investigative Commander(F/SGT). In 2017, he was selected to and graduated from the FBI National Academy (270).
In March 2024, he assumed his current role as Area 1 Investigative Commander. His primary role is to plan, coordinate and manage all Area 1 investigations in the Lafayette, Lowell, and Peru Districts and supervises all district investigative commanders. In his 24 years of experience, Lt. Holeman has investigated, supervised, and managed numerous complex high-profile investigations including the Delphi Double Homicide Investigation. He has assumed additional leadership roles as a field training officer, hostage crisis negotiator, and a member of the mobile field force team.
