Detective Eric Barnes has been with the Dallas Police Department for 18 years and has been a detective with the department’s Homicide Unit for 12 years. As a homicide detective, he has conducted hundreds of death investigations to include natural deaths, suicides, overdoses, accidental deaths and murder.

Some of his investigations have been broadcast on Discovery ID, First 48, Snapped & Dateline and is currently a criminal analyst for the Law & Crime network.

He is assigned to the Texoma HIDTA/Texas Anti-Gang Center as a task force officer with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives-Violent Crimes Group (IV). He currently conducts state and federal investigations on criminal organizations who use firearms to engage in narcotics trafficking and violent criminal activity.

Over the past 7 years, Detective Barnes has trained hundreds of law enforcement officers on the topics of basic investigations, homicide investigations, interrogation techniques and civil rights & ethics. 

Detective Barnes provides training locally and abroad to state and federal agencies emphasizing advanced techniques of both reactive/proactive police response to violent crime.

I PUT MY FAITH IN JENNIFER FAITH

In October of 2020, Det. Eric Barnes from Dallas Police Department was tasked with investigating the murder of James Faith. James was killed as he was on a morning walk with his wife Jennifer, the morning after they celebrated the 15th anniversary of their relationship. James was shot multiple times by a masked gunman, who then attacked his wife Jennifer. The assailant fled the scene as neighbors began coming outside. During the investigation phase of this case Det. Barnes utilized cell phone downloads, call detail records, Google records, pen register trap & trace, aerial flyovers, surveillance cameras and forensic computer downloads to discover the truth.
