Joseph Itri is a Detective Sergeant First Class with the New Jersey State Police where he is assigned as the Assistant Unit Head of the Cold Case Unit and is currently supervising the New Jersey State Police Cold Case Unit as well as the Central Regional Cold Case Task Force which is part of the Attorney General’s Cold Case Initiative. Detective Sergeant First Class Itri has been a New Jersey State Trooper since 2004. Detective Sergeant First Class Itri was assigned to various road stations in Troop “C” before being designated a Detective in the Troop “C” Criminal Investigation Office in 2008.
Detective Sergeant First Class Itri was assigned to the Major Crime Unit in 2012. He was the first Trooper assigned to the Mercer County Homicide Task Force which handles homicide responsibilities in the capital city of Trenton. He was selected to be coordinator for the New Jersey State Police Advanced Homicide Investigation Conference at Princeton University which he facilitated for the 22nd-25th Annual Events.
In 2019 Detective Sergeant First Class Itri was promoted to Assistant Unit Head of the Major Crime Unit and then transferred to the newly formed New Jersey State Police Cold Case Unit. While assigned to the Cold Case Unit he coordinated the application for Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) Competitive Grant Funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance which resulted in a grant award. Detective Sergeant First Class Itri was President of the New Jersey Homicide Investigator’s Association (NJHIA) from 2016-2018 and previously served as Treasurer. He is a member of the Vidocq Society and has provided presentations in various capacities for the New Jersey State Police as well as for the Vidocq Society and the Mid-Atlantic Cold Case Homicide Investigator’s Association (MACCHIA).
