Jon Smith began his law enforcement career in 2004 when he joined the Norfolk Police Department, located in Norfolk, Virginia. After spending time on patrol, he was transferred to the detective bureau in 2006 where he spent most of his time working within the homicide squad investigating some of the city's most dangerous and high-profile crimes involving homicide and other various death cases. As such, his case work has been featured on national news outlets, numerous podcasts, and entertainment television, such as A&E, America's Most Wanted, and others. In addition to his death investigation experience, Jon spent several years in the vice and narcotic unit working drug cases, and in the forensic unit processing hundreds of major crime scenes. Jon currently serves as the only cold case detective where he investigates cold case homicide and rape cases.
Throughout his time working investigations, Jon developed a knack for being able to develop,
implement, and provide training to other law enforcement personnel on a national level in his capacity of teaching as a private contractor. While doing so, he began to see the need for more training evolutions across the United States. This desire led to Jon, along with his business partner, to establish their own company, PinnacleTCI, LLC.
Jon is a graduate of Old Dominion University, Norfolk, VA and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, and a minor in Philosophy. He has been awarded with numerous awards and
commendations throughout his career to include the Virginia area Crime Line Top Cop award and The United States Department of Justice's Fifth Annual Attorney General's Awar d for Distinguished Service in Community Policing.
In addition to Jon's law enforcement training and experience, he is a Private Investigator licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
