Former Congressman and King County Sheriff Dave Reichert brings nearly 50 years of public service experience to GTH-GA. Dave is a Vice President advising clients on many issues, with an emphasis on public safety and trade. Prior to joining the firm, Dave served fourteen years as a member of the United States Congress representing Washington State’s 8th Congressional District (2005 - 2018). While in Congress, Dave was a member of the House Ways and Means Committee and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Trade. Earlier in his congressional career, Dave was a member of the House Homeland Security Committee and Chaired the Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness.
Dave began his public service career as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves before joining the King County Sheriff’s Office. His 33-year law enforcement career at the King County Sheriff’s Office culminated in Dave’s service as the elected sheriff, leading the 1,100-person organization for eight years. For a significant portion of his law enforcement career, he worked as the lead investigator on the Green River serial killer case in which 49 young women were murdered during the 1980s – the most prolific serial murder case in U.S. history. While serving as Sheriff, Dave reopened the investigation in 2001, allowing advances in DNA technology to identify the killer and solve the case.
While Sheriff, Dave established himself as a leading voice against domestic violence. In 2004, he received the prestigious National Sheriffs’ Association’s “Sheriff of the Year” award. He is a two-time Medal of Valor Award recipient from the King County Sheriff’s Office and was honored with the Washington Policy Center’s Champion of Freedom Award.
Dave and his wife Julie live in Chelan, Washington. They have three grown children and six grandchildren.
